Black Box to Showcase KVM Matrix Switch Control Solutions for Mission Critical Control Rooms

Black Box (NAB booth SL10124) will showcase two new solutions for external control of the DKM KVM matrix switch, a scalable enterprise-class KVM solution for mission critical control rooms. The DKM platform can be controlled with keyboard shortcuts, a pop-up on-screen display (OSD), and external control systems. The switching response time is instantaneous for all control methods.

The ControlBridge touch screens are powered over Ethernet (PoE) and have single cable connectivity for power and control. Separate control processors support other interfaces, such as serial, IR, relays, and digital I/O. The ControlBridge system supports control for a wide range of Black Box products including KVM switches, video switches, video walls processors, and video encoders, enabling an integrated control solution for multiple systems.

The Black Box ControlBridge™ control system enables control of multiple systems for an integrated and seamless operator experience. Control interface options include touch panels, desktop button panels, and mobile devices with iOS, Android, and Windows. At NAB 2016, Black Box will demonstrate the ControlBridge touch panel interface with a drag-and-drop user experience to switch server access from a list of sources to a destination monitor on the user’s desktop or a video wall. The drag-and-drop capability enables dynamic selection of any source and destination combination via a visual and intuitive user interface.

For applications, such as broadcast control rooms, where customers prefer or need panels with backlit push buttons, Black Box has partnered with DNF Controls to define and implement a multi-layered menu interface using DNF’s UPS-16 universal switch panel. The UPS-16 is a 1U rack-mount, 16-button control panel that can be used to select source servers dynamically to be connected to destination screens. Users do not need to program or remember the specific functions of preset buttons. The panel supports redundant power and includes an internal web-based user interface for configuration and setup.

“We’re excited to demonstrate additional control options for users to switch server access and video content in mission-critical control rooms” said Harry Ostaffe, Director of Product Marketing for Control Room Solutions at Black Box. “The Black Box ControlBridge and DNF Controls USP-16 demonstrations are both programmed to provide dynamic source and destination selection and give users much greater function and flexibility over fixed, pre-set selection control devices.”
